Data Protection – Brian Ray is a professor of law and the co-founder and Director of the Center for Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection at Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He is also one of our distinguished program faculty members for the online MLS in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy program.

Professor Ray was also a member of the CyberOhio Advisory Board which drafted the Act. On August 3, 2018, Governor John Kasich signed the Ohio Data Protection Act into law. This, making Ohio the first state to enact a law that incentivizes businesses to implement a cybersecurity program. They did this by providing a safe harbor to businesses that do so.

If you are interested in learning more about the Data Protection Act, listen to the McGeorge Law Capital Center for Law & Policy’s podcast. During this podcast, you will hear a discussion of the Ohio Data Protection Act with Center Director Brian Ray. Here, Brian Ray goes into detail about how Ohio did data privacy differently than many other states. Also, discusses how data privacy impacts many different industries across the United States.
